Welcome! Let's get acquainted!

I am Martha Meijer, an independent human rights advisor.

On this website you will find more information about what my activities are, what I think I am good at, and what I like to do.

I have worked in various human rights organisations and I feel at home in different settings, governmental as well as non-governmental, diverse continents, and in different roles. I hope that this website provides sufficient information of my capacities for you to decide whether and how we could work together.

First, I present a general overview of
my ideas about human rights, on the importance of human rights on the ground and the need of assessing effectiveness for improvement, and the link between human rights and development.

My
consultancy and advisory activities include research, training and capacity enhancement of human rights organisations, and evaluations. My stakeholders are  mainly non-governmental organisations, in places like Kosova, Zimbabwe, Surinam, Indonesia and Timor Leste. I have also carried out assignments for formal bodies such as the Dutch government and the Indonesian police. My recent assignments are described here and my complete curriculum vitae is available here.

I have a few issues that I'm especially interested in. Sometimes they are connected with paid assignments, but sometimes I carry them out in what I call the "volunteer mode". These issues include
human rights impact assessment, impunity and Indonesia. Click  here for more information on my activities in that respect.

A special part of my website contains back issues of the Weekly Update in Human Rights in Indonesia, which I am compiling since October 2012 in the context of my volunteer work for Amnesty International. They are based on public information from mainly Indonesian sources. You can receive those 3-6 pages summaries by mail, just drop me a mail.

About me: Here are my
curriculum vitae and a summary. In many of my training activities I have used a certain amount of general information on human rights as a basis. You can read a recent background paper on human rights in general here.

On the left side you can view and download a book that is the result of a sabbatical period in 2005 devoted to impunity in Indonesia: The Scope of Impunity. Recently I wrote an article on human rights impact assessment and possible concrete approaches. Read about this smart tool
here
.

I welcome feed back. Please provide it at
